And since Magic Jack has no infrastructure is why it is so cheap. It is not like Landlines where you are paying for the telephone number and the infrastructure. You are paying for a Magic Jack number only. Or WiFi (or perhaps Ethernet) through a Laptop. But the communication uses the Internet by Ethernet by itself (and the Ethernet router and modem). This device that I have is not Power Over Ethernet. Or you can connect to The Internet without using the computer at all, as long as you have an Ethernet capable router.

It has a USB charger adapter which can plug into a laptop and there is software which interfaces with the laptop. As long as you have an Internet connection to connect to it. That is probably very affordable and you can take the device anywhere you go. I guess you get what you pay for which is a year of subscription or possibly five years of subscription. I don't advise however taking that chance. Some magicJack customers are happy with the product. The average consumer, even if he or she were to look over the Terms of Service, will not grasp the import of this nearly-hidden provision. 'We may require prepaid purchase and/or we may charge you for calls to conference lines, platforms and certain high cost calls, or any call wherein we incur a cost from another carrier.' MagicJack's justification for these unexpected charges is this provision in the middle of magicJack's extensive hard-to-read Terms of Service: Others concern renewal nags *after* the renewal has been purchased, or paid renewals that did not renew service-or, most troubling of all, charges for calls whose cost should according to the company's promotions be covered by the purchase price. Many of those complaints have to do with not being able to get the device to work (perhaps after it has worked just fine for a while). MagicJack offers virtually no customer support, and no phone contact except a line for billing matters. so I'm still paying for a service that's not working and MJ has staff that can't help. I said I'll do the full test again if she gave time for it to complete. I told her my internet is the same as it has been for years and it's only recently that MJ stopped working. So she then 'assumed' this was why it was not working.

So the last part of the test didn't finish. She then gave me a speed test to do and while it was running I had to go back to her because of her impatience 'haven't heard you for a while'. However not knowing the problem I did all of those and none worked one after the other. It's clear she was in no way technically minded and offered many basic things. I contacted their live chat (Rosa) and explained the problem. Tested it for myself and sure enough I was paying for a service and it wasn't working. their app worked good for less than a year till I heard people saying they were trying to reach me and they couldn't get through. First off let me start with the HORRIBLE customer service!
